Augustine Carter at one time was engaged to be married to Frances Carter, his cousin (daughter of Daniel Carter) the engagement was broken. It is told that she got mad at him when he danced two or three times at a ball with a girl she did not like. She told him to marry her if he wanted to -- She wouldn't have him. They never made up and neither ever married.1 He was born on 22 October 1741.1 He was the son of Dale Carter and (?) Edwards.1 Augustine Carter left a will on 21 October 1811 left his property to be divided equally between Mr. Charles Webb "for his kindness to me this present year", and to the poorest man in Lancaster County.1 He died in 1812.1

He was the son of Charles Carter and Lucy (?).2 Charles Carter was qualified as deputy sheriff in Russell county, a newly formed county in 1786.3,2 He held the office of Clerk of the County for Lee County when Lee was created from Russell. He continued in that position until 1824. In 1792.4 He appeared on the census of 1820 at Scott, VA, US.5 He died in 1828 at Rye Cove, VA, US.2
