He was born in Sullivan County and was a resident of Kingsport all of his life. He retired from Eastman Kodak after 31 years of service in the Polymers Division. He enjoyed and loved his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed bluegrass music, NASCAR, history, traveling, and his friends. HE LOVED LIFE. Mr. Tittsworth was preceded in death by his father, William David Tittsworth; and stepfather, Robert Switzer. Survivors include his daughter, Sally Elaine and husband Steven Orlando; grandchildren, Jordan Cole, Morgan Brittany and Hayley Gabrielle; mother, Gladys Carter Switzer; sisters, Linda Tittsworth Harrell, Ocala, Fla., and Doris Ann Tittsworth Begley, Sarasota, Fla; nieces and nephews, Teresa Begley Sanders, Tony Begley, Phillip Begley, Garrett Begley, Abby Sanders, Isaiah Begley, Dr. H.L. Harrell III, Gregory Harrell and David Harrell. Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Oak Hill Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Kidney Foundation or the Cancer Research Center. An online guest book may be signed at www.legacy.com. He drew his last pay in September, 1779, about the time the battle of King's Mountain was fought. Thus, is it clear he died prior to 1838. We do not know of marriage or children. (We understand there was an Eleanor Vicars that married a William Barker, but have no info. on this.) 3. Jacob Vicars, born 1815/17, married Susan _____. This Jacob was in Lee Co., VA in 1860 and since he had a daughter, Marinda, we believe this is a son of John and Miranda Vicars. 4. Nancy Vicars, no info. known. There was a Nancy Vicars that had a daughter Marinda and a son William (wife was Eliza). This Nancy was in Scott Co., VA in 1900 Census living in household of William Vicars and she was listed as age 70 and the mother of William Vicars. 5. James J. Vicars . . . . (see his file) 6. John Vicars. We believe that this is the John Vicars that was listed in the McMinn Co., TN, census in 1860 with a wife, Martha A. Crawford, five children, one of whom was named Marinda. A John Vicars was in the 1850 Lawrence Co., KY, census at age 25, a wife, Louisa, and a son William H. Vicars. The birthdate of the William in Lawrence Co., KY would be 1849 and so would the William in McMinn Co., TN. One of the chidlren of John Vicars of McMinn Co., Tn - Lewis A. Vicars married Sarah E. Joseph Vicars Per Louise Evans letter, Nov. 7, 1995: 'The records I have for 'my' Thomas Vickers born in Russell Co., VA, was Vicars BUT when he moved to Scott Co. and married, etc. did let his name appear on census records as 'Vickers'. He was my Paul Vickers' uncle & took care of Paul from census records 1860, 1870, Scott Co. when Joel Vicars using name VICKERS! married after Paul's mother Elizabeth Dean Vickers died soon after his birth.' Per Louise Evans undated letter I received Nov 11, 1995: 'It seems Elizabeth died soon after Paul's birth for in several documents of Joel Vickers family records the name, Joel alwyas appears as 'Joel and Paul' so it is believed my Paul was living with Joel and his parents until when about 7 yrs old he is on census record listed with children of Thomas Vickers, older brother of Joel. Thomas Burton and moved to Lee Co VA by 1812 where they bought sixty acres of land on North Side of Powell River from John McKinny Sr & wife Elizabeth (Deed Bk 2, page 394) This land was sold to James C. McMillan on 22 Nov 1820. Lee Co Deed Bk 4, page 78) Nancy was named in her father's will in 1821. Nancy and Thomas Burton were listed as members of the Baptist Church at Nickelsville, VA on Feb 21, 1807, the date of the first entry of the old church book. At that time it was known as the Copper Creek Arm of the Baptist Church.
